HDB Interior Design · Singapore
HDB homes,planned aroundreal routines.
Most HDB flats share a floor plan with thousands of others. What makes one feel considered is how its layout, storage and light are resolved around the household living in it. We design HDB interiors that work at 7am and 10pm — not just in renderings.

Fit
Who this service is for.
- Families in 4-room and 5-room flats who need storage to absorb daily life without visual clutter
- Resale-flat owners planning a full overhaul — hacking, rewiring, re-plumbing and re-planning
- Couples right-sizing from larger homes who need smarter, not bigger, storage
- Households working from home who need a genuine work zone inside a shared plan
Common challenges
The problems we are hired to solve.
What tends to go wrong with hdb and resale hdb projects — and how this service addresses each one.
Storage always runs out before the year does
HDB floor area is fixed, so storage has to be planned in linear metres, not vibes. We quantify what you own — from luggage to rice cookers — and design carpentry around it, so six months in, the flat still works.
One living space has to do five jobs
Lounging, hosting, homework, workouts and laundry all compete for the same square metres. Zoning on plan — furniture placement, lighting scenes, partial partitions — resolves the competition before it becomes furniture regret.
Older flats hide expensive surprises
Resale flats bring age-related works: floor hacking versus overlay decisions, ageing pipes, dated wiring. We inspect and scope these honestly at quotation stage, because discovering them mid-renovation is how budgets break.
Everything looks the same on Instagram
Trend-led flats date quickly. We build material palettes around your light, your maintenance tolerance and longevity, so the design still feels yours in year eight.
Our approach
How we work through it.
Four commitments that hold on every engagement, regardless of scope.
- 01
Plan before style
Circulation, storage and light are resolved on plan first. A beautiful render with a corridor through it is still a corridor.
- 02
Carpentry where it earns its keep
Built-ins concentrated where storage pressure is real — entry, kitchen, bedrooms — and avoided where freestanding pieces keep the home flexible.
- 03
Materials for Singapore living
Humidity, strong sun and daily cooking are the real design brief. We specify surfaces that age gracefully and clean easily, and we tell you what each choice demands.
- 04
Light in layers
HDB ceiling heights reward layered lighting: ambient, task and accent on separate circuits, planned before the ceiling closes.
Scope
What the service covers.
Every line below appears in your quotation as its own item — nothing is implied or bundled.

- Custom carpentry design and fabrication
- Electrical, lighting and plumbing planning
- Hacking, tiling, painting and works coordination
- Permit submissions for HDB flats
- Site supervision and quality checks
- Styling and handover
Each of these stages sits inside our wider working method — consultations, drawings, itemised quotations and a supervised build. The sequence never changes even when the scope does.

FAQ
Common questions.
Answered straight. Anything specific to your home is confirmed during consultation.
Who can carry out renovation works in an HDB flat?
HDB renovation works must be carried out by renovation contractors registered with HDB, who submit the required renovation permit on your behalf before any work starts. We coordinate the permit process with the appointed contractor as part of project coordination. You can read HDB's renovation guidelines on the official HDB website.
When can renovation works be carried out?
HDB restricts general renovation works to weekdays and Saturdays, roughly 9am to 6pm, with noisy works limited to weekdays and prohibited on Sundays and public holidays. Exact conditions are set out in HDB's renovation guidelines, and our project programme is built around them.
Should I overlay or hack my floor tiles?
Overlay keeps costs and debris down and shortens the schedule, but raises floor levels — which affects doors, skirting and sometimes kitchen heights. Hacking gives a clean slate and is usually the better long-term choice for flats with floor problems. We assess the existing floor and give you a straight recommendation with the cost difference spelled out.
How long does an HDB renovation take?
Full renovations typically run eight to twelve weeks on site depending on scope, after design and detailing. Resale flats with hacking and wet-area rework sit at the longer end. You receive a week-by-week programme before works begin.
What should I do before renovating a resale flat?
Check the condition of floors, waterproofing, wiring and pipes before purchase if possible — these drive the biggest cost differences. If you have already bought, our consultation includes flagging which of these your flat is likely to need, so the budget is realistic from day one.
